Dillon's beautiful location in the heart of Summit County real estate provides an unrivaled scenic backdrop for an abundance of summer activities. Its close proximity to the famous Summit County ski areas makes it a convenient spot for winter vacationers and those who love Breckenridge area real estate. As a full-service community with a year-round residential and seasonal population of 2,800, the many investment properties in Dillon just about double the ranks.
The variety of Summit County properties for sale in Dillon include condos for sale, dream homes for sale in Dillon and horse properties for sale in Dillon—all close to the unrivaled shores of the Dillon Reservoir which was built to quench the thirst of the growing Denver population. Houses for sale in Dillon Valley and homes in Summit Cove, both an integral part of the community, are just some of the friendly neighborhoods available as real estate in Dillon.
The Town of Dillon actually began where three rivers—the Blue, the Ten Mile, and the Snake—came together. This was a perfect setting for a trading post, a stage stop and clusters of cabins, at least until Denver needed water storage in the high country. Without a hiccup, the town relocated to the northeastern shore of the lake while the reservoir was being completed in 1963.
Now the lakeside mountain town of Dillon has a variety of amenities. The Dillon Town Center provides services, dining and entertainment opportunities within walking distance from Lake Dillon. The Dillon Ridge Marketplace on Highway 6 is a mix of local and national chain businesses offering entertainment, restaurants, retail and services. There are unique eateries housed in buildings from the Old Town, microbreweries, a bowling alley, batting cages, outlet stores, and Saturday night summer concert/theatre performances in the lake’s amphitheater. The old school house, now the Summit Historical Society’s museum, presents interesting history of the area, including a slide show of the construction of the dam, a tour of the 1885 Lula Meyers’ Ranch House and the “Honeymoon Cabin.”
True to the active and green lifestyle, the town keeps a full calendar of events including a Snow Golf Tournament, an Ice Melt Parade and Princess Coronation, an MS Walk at Marina Park, Clean-Up Day and Arbor Day Celebrations, a Memorial Day Service, a Soap Box Derby, a variety of free Nature Nights, regular Farmers’ Markets, a Let’s Go Boating Fundraiser, numerous free concerts, a Denver to Dillon Ride for Life, Young People’s Theatre Workshop Summer Production, a regatta, and a barbeque. There’s a self-guided walking tour of town and much more.
Elected officials govern the town. They manage the police, public works, the water and sewer department, the planning and engineering, as well as the town’s marina. Children attend the Summit County schools locally and in nearby locales.
