Highly educated and in touch with Mother Nature, the residents here care for their pristine mountainsides and gold-medal streams with great pride.  They have worked to reduce emissions and landfill volumes, eliminate beetles, promote forest health and reduce wildfire risks.  The people in the county also sponsor several health events and cleanup events.

The list of recreational opportunities here is endless.  Together with the community, the county strives to create and maintain excellent trails (such as Dillon Dam Road and Temple Trail) and facilities.  No excuses for the couch potato!  There are backcountry tours, guided ski tours, cross country skiing, dog sledding, ice skating, snowboarding, snow-biking, snow-mobile rides, show-shoeing, sleigh rides, batting cages, bicycling, boating, bowling, fishing, golfing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, mountain biking, mountaineering, recreation centers, resort activities, river rafting, rock climbing, spas, sports-complex activities, swimming and tubing, hot-air balloon rides, off-road 4x4ing and overnight hut trips all right here in the county.

A centrally located high school and a middle school serve the older students, but there are elementary schools are located in each town (2,831 total students).  The county school district plans to offer learning and enrichment during all school breaks.  Innovations under way in the district will allow teachers to educate themselves about cutting-edge, instructional strategies and practices and put their heads together to develop personal instructional interventions that ensure each student’s success.

The College in the Colorado Rocky Mountains located here is a two-year school delivering a personalized, quality education on three residential campuses.  The school offers an invigorating blend of outdoor experiential education and rigorous academic preparation.
