Blue River Bikeway around Breckenridge Neighborhoods

Eleven miles of the Blue River Bikeway connect Breck with Frisco and several hiking and biking trails are accessible from that route.  The Bikeway also leads to the Ten-Mile Canyon and Vail Pass National Recreation Trail, which parallels I-70.  It’s a fairly easy ride from Frisco to Copper Mountain.  Then, from Copper Mountain up to the Vail Pass, the trail is naturally steeper, full of switchbacks and hairpin curves.  A section of the trail runs west of town, too.  The Blue River Bikeway is a Colorado rail trail and part of a nationwide rail-trail system.
 
The heart of the Rocky Mountains is the perfect place to relax and enjoy this simple life.  Moderate summer temperatures and plenty of available bike rentals make these bicycle outings into cherished memories.  When visitors need some extra help getting up the mountains, some of the rental companies oblige and drive biker and bike to the top of one of the passes for the refreshing experience of riding back down!   Though the weather is usually cooperative, the mountain weather is sometimes erratic.  It’s best to tie a parka onto the handlebars, just in case.

Be sure to ride into Breck’s ski village at the base of the mountain and peruse Main Street’s funky shops and interesting historic district.  Then cool off in the huge indoor pool and waterslides at the Recreation Center and head out for some authentic Mexican food at Mi Casa.
