Breckenridge real estate along the route to Boreas Pass will delight your loping Labrador. Just take the trailhead to Baker’s Tank for an excellent run, snowshoe, or backcountry cross-country ski route all year round. Local families and their dogs especially trod this 6-mile route between winter closure and the onset of the heavy snows. From the trailhead parking area, run up the road that was an old rail grade for mining trains leaving Breckenridge for South Park. Views of tarns and mountains peaking to the Hoosier Pass make the steady climb to Baker’s Tank an event for you and your dog. By the way, the historic water tank used to supply water to stream locomotives at 10,859 feet.
Another great loop is the connecting Illinois Gulch that begins in town at the Conoco Station. Bring some trail mix, and water for your pooch—this one is 10 miles long.
When looking for property, bring your happy dog along. Well-behaved dogs of any size can certainly find lodging in town at the Wayside Inn, at the Tiger Run RV Resort, and at numerous rental houses throughout the neighborhoods and rural areas. And take your four-legged friend to dog-friendly Carter Park where dogs alternate in flexible spaces with other activities such as seasonal sledding on the hill. The town is looking to develop additional dog parks in the future.
The DogTerra is at the Golf Course Gold Run Nordic Center Participants may be accompanied by a maximum of two leashed dogs. Enter the Dogstacle Course, Nordic Ski Jouring, Snowshoeing, Frisbee Catch, Chuck-It Chase for prizes. Nordic, snowshoe and obstacle course are timed events. There’s also a fun Canine 4K race held annually in Frisco. The more athletic of the pets enjoy the teamwork of pulling sleds around in the snow. And a select few get to go hunting.
The League for Animals and People of the Summit runs the Summit County Animal Shelter and is active in promoting the idea of a dog-friendly town. L.A.P.S. is largely dependent upon community support through tax-deductible annual memberships and welcomes endowments for lifetime memberships and bequests. The organization is involved in helping needy residents to properly support their pets as well. With the available pet supplies, boarding facilities, scooping services, and veterinarians in the area, your best friend will be right at home in this quaint mountain town.
