Many fresh-air ways to give involve stewardship. The Colorado Fourteeners Initiative (CFI) has a mission to protect and preserve the natural integrity of the states 14,000-foot peaks through active stewardship and public education. Their next project involves partnering with the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center to improve the trail to Quandary’s summit with minimal impact to the sensitive alpine tundra environment. Then they will be collecting and teaching about seeds at Mount Evans. See www.14ers.org.
Then there is the Summit Huts Association that provides inspirational backcountry refuge for self-propelled mountain recreational users. They also prepare spectacular natural settings for community, charitable, and educational programs. Recently, the SHA worked on Francie’s Cabin, moving wood, stacking, chopping, cleaning, composting, and trail building. Their next projects are Janet’s Cabin and Ken’s Cabin in October.
