Although Vail Resorts Inc. recently announced a dip in its fiscal second quarter, residents of Summit County real estate in Breckenridge, Keystone, and other ski areas turn the other cheek on the news. Snow may come and go, skiers come and go, and stocks may rise and fall. However, a growing nucleus of lovers of the ever-present Rocky Mountains are choosing to buy Breckenridge, Colorado real estate and Park County, Colorado homes in the nearby communities of Alma and Fairplay because good things are happening around the resorts.
We wink when the stocks fluctuate with the weather and the headlines try to take away our breath. After all, Vail Resorts must understand after decades of being in the business how to ride the waves. Apparently the dearth of early snowfall impacted the market.
In the first six months of 2007, Vail Resorts posted a net income of $26.7 million, or 68 cents a share. That was up 22 cents a share more than the previous year. And after the news of the second-quarter figures, the stock fell 75 cents a share. The net income of $51.3 million or $1.31 a share for the quarter ending on January 31, 2008, however, doesn’t fair so poorly as compared with the net income of $53 million or $1.35 a share, for the same quarter in 2007. What is 4 cents in the stock market? The shares are down a bit—maybe it is a good time to pick up a few shares before it snows again.
Yes, skiers didn’t head out en masse until the holidays and throughout January when they almost made up for the drop in skiers in the early part of the season. Frankly, old timers around here are really good at making hay while the sun shines and finding ways to refresh and restore their strength in a wide variety of exciting diversions. If there is little snow, they hunt or fish, hike and bike, sail and kayak. When there is snow, they ski and ride, cross-country ski and snowshoe, snowmobile and sleigh ride.
That’s the beauty of taking stock in Mother Nature. She morphs in adventurous ways. Come see what real estate you can find in the folds of the Ten Mile Range, the Continental Divide, and the Gore Mountains that will wonderfully match your investment in the clear mountain air.
