Come join the happy throng at the Park County Fair in Fairplay, Colorado during July and we will show you some great vacation cabins and rural real estate within a half hour of Breckenridge, Keystone, and Copper Mountain world-class ski resorts. The prices are right and the area also features some of the best fly fishing anywhere, along with wonderful trails for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Pick out a recreational property in Park County, Colorado—maybe a few acres in Alma or Fairplay CO real estate—and add your own horses.
As this year’s Rodeo Queen encourages, “Pile in the family car, jump on your horse, and make your way down to Fairplay for the Park County Fair. I’ll see you there!”
At the Park County Fair in 2008, there will be Horse Shows, Dog Shows, Ranch Rodeos, Livestock Shows, Shooting Sports, Craft and Fiber Shows, Gymkhanas, Kids Day and Parade, Mutton Bustin’, Livestock Auction, a Dance, a Greased Pig Catch, Rancher’s Pride, Stick Horse Rodeo, and a Craft and Art Show. In fact, if you move quickly, you can enter the Open Horse Show scheduled for July 12-13 with its Western, English, Roping, and Versatility events that are new this year. The Park County Fair is a great place to meet people who still love to bake a Blue Ribbon pie. Along with the baked goodies, you’ll see handmade quilts and clothing, photography, art, and woodworking.
Park County is all about 4-H and is invigorated by former 4-H members. Many of the area children grow up showing hogs, steer, lambs, and horses. You can watch or participate in the Ranch rodeo or enter your livestock in the Rancher’s Pride. The livestock competition on July 19 ends with the All-Around Showmanship Competition, prefaced with a free Buyer Buffet Dinner, a Junior Live Auction, and followed by the Fair Dance.
If you want to get a good taste of the area sooner, join us May 31 and June 1 during the Spring Classic. It is a great time for the 4-H youth to have the opportunity to build and practice their skills in grooming, showing, knowledge of their 4-H market animal projects through clinics and seminars. They learn about feed nutrition, animal health, and quality meat assurance. A showmanship of all of the livestock species will be held at the Fairgrounds and the Champion and Reserve Champion for sheep, beef, and swine will be awarded a belt buckle. Sponsored by the Livestock Committee, local ranchers, businesses, residents, and other organizations for the youth, the Spring Classic is also lots of fun!
