Breckenridge 2008 National Repertory Orchestra

One thing about owning Breckenridge, Colorado real estate is that the world comes to you during fabulous events like the National Repertory Orchestra performances.  These enriching award-winning cultural events complement the world-class sporting events, making your investment in Breckenridge real estate especially balancing for each generation of family and friends.  Imagine owning one of the brand new Breckenridge duplex homes on Whispering Pines or some other Breckenridge or Park County real estate.

You can join the crowds that flock to the beautiful Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge to listen to the National Repertory Orchestra from June to August.  For over 30 years, Maestro Carl Topilow has led the NRO as it performs a full range of symphonic literature.  Additionally, members participate in smaller chamber concerts and at several other locations in the state in a schedule that includes 29 concerts—the equivalent of a full season of symphony.

The interesting thing is that the National Repertory Orchestra is a preeminent eight-week fellowship that successfully equips young musicians for orchestral music careers in the United States and abroad.  The 89 top-level musicians come together for this high-caliber experience, which boosts their musical options.  Alumni of the NRO program currently play in every major and regional orchestra in the United States as well as in orchestras around the globe.

Originally founded in 1960 in Estes Park, the non-profit National Repertory Orchestra then moved to Evergreen in 1966 and to Keystone in 1986.  The NRO moved to Breckenridge when the new Riverwalk Center opened.  The program has come a long way from being called the Blue Jeans Symphony, to the Colorado Philharmonic, and finally to the National Repertory Orchestra to reflect the national scope of the auditions.

During the winter months, Maestro Topilow and other NRO alumni audition more than 800 young musicians from leading conservatories and music schools around the United States.  These musicians participate in a summer intensive that includes a rigorous rehearsal and performance schedule in addition to doing classroom work.  They emerge with strong new skills and disciplines.  For example, they learn business principals by taking classes in contract negations, finance for musicians, communications, networking, and outreach development.  NRO graduates also learn how to engage with the community, speaking with the media, and other practical skills.  In the past, they have offered community service, engaging in music therapy at a nearby hospital.

The musicians reside with local families and also take advantage of the wonderful summer hiking, rafting, and sports events.  If you haven’t picked up season tickets yet, they are reasonably priced for individual tickets, four packs, and season tickets.  See you at the Riverwalk or give us a shout beforehand.
